Auto repair in the United States is split between independent shops, dealership service departments and national chains. Independents handle most routine work (oil changes, brakes, tune-ups, check-engine diagnostics) at lower labor rates and often specialize in one make or in imports; dealers keep factory tools, software and warranty authority; chains sell speed and standard pricing on maintenance items. Most shops charge a diagnostic fee, credited toward the repair if you go ahead, and quote parts and labor separately. Certification matters: look for ASE-certified technicians and, in many states, a state repair license posted at the counter. Written estimates are required by law in most states before work begins, and you are entitled to your old parts if you ask.
The business lists hours on 5 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 8 amβ5 pm. Note that it does not open on Saturday, Sunday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. I'm giving them one star because they at least got my car on a lift and let me into the shop to look at it the same hour I brought it in as a walk-in. But, no higher of a rating because even though I brought the correct part for them to put on they tried to convince me they couldn't do the job. Like come on man, that all you guys do is do repairs for people. I know cars and how they are fixed. I'm guessing they are just use to overcharging for work. My entire exhaust system is factory, meaning the whole span from manifold to two mufflers are welded together. They white haired sales man looking guy tried to tell me that the part I needed would have to be put through a pipe bender and they didn't have one. That's where they think I wasn't paying attention because the brand new part I had was pre-bent. It didn't need bending. He broke open the box, he must have seen it was correct. All they would have to do is take a saws all to the exiting failed pipe area and weld the new one on in front of the cat and bolt it onto the manifold. They wasted my time and insulted my intelligence. I will be going back to talk to the owner, Steve, who is the main mechanic there. When I actual

I went in for an inspection and they replaced my headlights without calling and asking me first, and charged me for it. I expected to only pay for the inspection but they charged me for bulbs and labor also. I had replacement bulbs in my glove compartment and I planned on doing it myself. I donβt appreciate them not asking before upcharging me

Meh. Brought in my car with an issue I suggested a fix for. They insisted it was my battery and that my battery needed to be replaced. They replaced my battery (unnecessary and expensive)...car turned off in the middle of the road a mile away from the shop. They didn't bother diagnosing properly. Took my car to a respectable shop (Autoworks in Varna) and Autoworks diagnosed and fixed the actual problem (what I thought it was and completely unrelated to my battery). Take your car to Autoworks. Not here.

They are honest and knowledgeable. (Recently diagnosed a thermostat problem on my RAV4 hybrid. They were getting ready to replace it and decided that the hybrid made it much more complex, and they were afraid they could make a mistake. They called to tell me, and recommended going to the dealer. Did not charge me for their time.) That's why we've been going there 25 years! Very flexible with appointments, get the job done when they promise. Prices seem fair & reasonable.

Willcox doesnβt advertise it, but I believe theyβre clearly in the windshield repair business as a side hustle. Have spent $1000s there on tires, brakes and the like... and had been happy with getting called back quickly and efficiently. But a year ago upon getting our ride back from inspection (which passed) there was a nice deep chip in the windshield. I gave the benefit of the doubt even though it was straight in the driver side sight line considering the inspection passed. This year it was my wife who took the car in... sure enough we failed inspection, not for the crack that was already there, but somehow that crack turned into a spiderweb during inspection along with a few others. Last time I checked NYS doesnβt require an impact test for vehicle inspections. So to top it all off when my wife protested what was clearly new damage (that inspectors claimed βwas already thereβ or βmust have happened from body torque in being put on the liftβ), they sent her off without failing our inspection, without giving us a sheet, without scraping the current inspection, or even having to pay the fee. Interesting. No wonder they are one of the few non-national tire shops that offer
